Visiting Japanese drum team members (from left) Emiko Okumura, Kentaro Hikichi and Jessie Gibbs perform near Otago Museum in Dunedin yesterday during a South Island tour.
The eight-strong team from the International Pacific College (IPC), a tertiary institution based in Palmerston North, entertained about 60 onlookers with a lively performance.
Museum visitor programmes co-ordinator Emma Burns said it was the team's seventh performance at the museum.
Former team captain Ms Gibbs (21) is completing a bachelor of international studies degree in Japanese and teaching of English as a second language at IPC this year.
Through Japanese drumming she became fully involved, and became part of the song itself, not just someone who "played" it, she said.
"I just love the rhythm when I play drums."
