Two people were taken to hospital after a car crashed through a fence and landed on its side north of Dunedin yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called to Henry St, Waikouaiti, about 6.15pm.

A 41-year-old driver lost control and the vehicle left the road.

It took out a fence before coming to a stop on its side, Snr Sgt Bond said.

Two passengers were also inside the vehicle.

The driver admitted to drinking alcohol and the results of a blood sample were still being analysed, Snr Sgt Bond said.

A Hato Hone St John spokesman said they assessed two people at the scene.

Both were taken to Dunedin Hospital by ambulance, one in a moderate condition and the other in a minor condition.
