University working on strategic plan

The University of Otago has started working on a document to help guide the direction it takes over the next eight years.

Otago University director of planning and funding David Thomson said work on the document, which will replace its Strategic Direction to 2012, began earlier this week at a vice-chancellor's forum to which university staff were invited.

The new document, called the Strategic Direction to 2020, would centre around its vision of being "a research-led university with an international reputation for excellence".

"We do, however, expect that the Strategic Directions 2020 document will reflect the university's increasingly bolder and brighter expectations."

It was hoped the document would be completed by the end of this year, with final approval expected at the last university council meeting of the yearThe development of the document would be a "very open process", with both university staff and the public invited to provide input.
