A Voices of Peace concert, featuring a Dunedin-based ''cello choir'', attracted more than 160 members of the public in the city.

The ''cello choir'' was provided by Cellists of Otago, and the concert was part of the WW100 series of World War 1 centenary projects.

The 14 members of the cellists group were joined by award-winning 2012 Lexus Song Quest finalist, counter tenor Stephen Diaz, as well as by saxophonist and oboist Nick Cornish.

Cellists of Otago director and University of Otago executant lecturer in cello Heleen du Plessis (sp crrct, jg) said that cellists and other musicians had to listen to each other, ''play in tune with each other'' and to work in harmony if they were to perform together.

Musicians could not change everything, but through their ''Voices of Peace'' concert, the cellists aimed ''to put emphasis on our shared humanity''.

And they also sought to raise awareness of the need for harmony and peace in the wider world.

The concert was held in the Sargood Centre, Logan Park, the former art gallery building. STORY: JOHN GIBB PHOTO: GREGOR RICHARDSON
