Cracks have been found in more silos at Fonterra factories after the collapse of a milk silo at the co-operative's Edendale plant in Southland last month.

The Edendale plant was damaged when a five-storey-high silo collapsed, bringing down an overhead gantry carrying large steam pipes.

As a result of that collapse, Fonterra has undertaken inspections of similar silos at its other plants, Radio New Zealand reports.

RNZ reported that cracks were found in three more silos next to the one that collapsed at Edendale.

Cracks have also been found at a stainless steel silo at a Fonterra plant near Timaru.

All cracks have since been repaired and verified as safe, RNZ reported.
