A two-car crash at Lewis Pass has caused critical injuries and closed State Highway 7 this evening.
A police spokesperson said the crash was reported at about 4.45pm.
"Initial reports suggest there are critical injuries."
Waka Kotahi said the crash happened near the Shale Creek Stream Bridge at Island Hills.
The road will likely be closed for several hours while emergency services work at the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and follow diversions on Hanmer Springs Rd and Springs Junction Rd.Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.
