The fate of Solid Energy's Spring Creek mine is expected to be announced at 4.30pm with chairman Mark Ford hosting a media briefing then to talk about the restructuring of the coal miner's business.
Workers from Spring Creek planned to march on Parliament tomorrow with Grey District May Tony Kokshoorn travelling to Wellingon where miners from Spring Creek and Huntly East will pleade with the Government to save their mines.
Mr Kokshorn is set to meet State-Owned Enterprises Minister Tony Ryall to try and convince him not to close the mines. The loss of Spring Creek would be enormous to Greymouth, he said.
The Government has not ruled out a cash injection for Solid Energy.
Solid Energy's operations in Southland are expected to remain unscathed although Mr Ford is warning that the restructuring comes in response to current market conditions.
