Two youths arrested following a police pursuit through southern centres will face a variety of charges for alleged offences stretching from Christchurch to Invercargill, police say.
The pair, Christchurch males aged 15 and 14, were remanded in custody after appearing in the Invercargill Youth Court on Saturday, Senior Sergeant Olaf Jensen, of Invercargill, said.
Both would reappear in the Invercargill Youth Court this morning, with the 14-year-old - whose name cannot be released - facing three charges of failing to stop and one of dangerous driving, Snr Sgt Jensen said.
The 15-year-old - also not named by police - would face one charge of failing to stop and one of dangerous driving, Snr Sgt Jensen said.
However, police inquiries were continuing and it was likely further charges would be laid in relation to alleged thefts between Christchurch and Invercargill, and the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, Snr Sgt Jensen said.
The offending was alleged to have taken place as the pair made their way south in a green Honda Civic stolen in Christchurch on Friday.
The pair were alleged to have driven off from a Milton petrol station about 2pm on Friday, dodging police road spikes and ramming a police dog van during a series of police pursuits later that afternoon.
Police eventually apprehended the pair after the Honda crashed into a parked four-wheel-drive vehicle near Mataura.
