A suspected murder-suicide which left two people dead has stunned a quiet east Auckland community, a local resident says.
Jacqueline Allister, 26, and Ivor Christiansen, 36, were found dead in a Walworth Ave, Pakuranga, house early Sunday morning after police were called by a 14-year-old girl who said there was a "serious domestic argument" taking place inside.
The couple, who according to Mr Christiansen's Facebook page were engaged, both died of knife wounds.
Walworth Ave resident David Gordon said he got up to go to the bathroom about 1am and heard shouting - he believed it was woman's voice - coming from the property across the street.
He could not make out what was being said but the woman sounded "extremely agitated".
Before he could call police a string of patrol cars began pouring into the street.
Mr Gordon said he did not know the couple and they kept very much to themselves, but nevertheless the deaths had shattered the quiet community.
"It's a quiet street. We thankfully don't tend to have dramas here and to have this happen - it's horrific at any time - but for it to happen at this time of year is very, very tragic and it just sort of stuns us."
People had been laying wreaths of flowers at the front doorstep of the house, he said.
Police said they were still investigating the deaths but were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
