A 20-year-old woman has escaped after being kidnapped and held hostage for six days on a Waikato farm.
Counties Manukau District police communications manager Ana-Marie Gates-Bowey said the woman was abducted outside the Mobil petrol station on Great North Road in Otahuhu on Friday night.
She said two men approached her, and one man - a former partner of the woman - grabbed her and pulled her into a vehicle.
The woman was taken to a farm near Huntly, Ms Gates-Bowey said, where the man attempted to rape her, until she escaped on Wednesday night.
"She was held there for six days and then managed to get away. The male who had taken her to the farmland had gone out and she escaped.''
Police have examined the vehicle used in the kidnapping and the Huntly farmhouse and are also hoping to view CCTV footage from the petrol station.
Police are yet to make any arrest and are appealing for information from the public.
