Dunedin residents will soon get another option when it comes to op shopping.
Orphans Aid International will open its second op shop in the city on Tuesday.
The new store will be located on the corner of Carlyle St and North Rd, in Northeast Valley.
Clothing, household goods, children’s games and more will be available.
Orphans Aid International is a registered charity which establishes orphanages and offers health services to orphaned children around the world.
It was founded in 2004 by Invercargill couple Sue and Carl van Schreven.
The charity has ongoing projects in Romania, Russia, Uganda, India and New Zealand.
Orphans Aid Dunedin manager Hilary Campbell has a personal reason for supporting the organisation, having adopted two orphaned children from Russia before becoming involved with the organisation about 12 years ago.
Staff at the North Dunedin store would all be volunteers.
Mrs Campbell said 54 volunteers were rostered to help at the store in King Edward St in South Dunedin and she hoped to have between 20 and 30 volunteers for the North Dunedin store.
She was still seeking additional volunteers to fill the roster for the North Dunedin store when she spoke to The Star.
The op shops served the dual purpose of raising funds for the charity and acting as a place where people could come to buy affordable goods, Mrs Campbell said.
Establishing the new op shop in North Dunedin helped the organisation to reach out into different parts of the Dunedin community.
