A Dunedin principal is glad the Ministry of Education has made the "sensible" decision to add a pair of roads into her school’s home zone that previously fell in no-man’s land.

The ministry is proposing to add Karetai and Highcliff Rds to Andersons Bay School’s enrolment scheme after noticing they were not included in any school’s home zones.

Principal Pauline Simpson said the ministry’s suggestion made "perfect sense".

She had a meeting the ministry last year about it and supported the call.

A family who lived in Karetai Rd had four generations of members attend the school, she said.

The ministry’s website said enrolment schemes were designed so there were no gaps between home zones and the update to Andersons Bay’s scheme would ensure all families in the area were eligible to be enrolled at the school.

The minor amendment was needed to clarify the home zone boundary of Andersons Bay School.

The change will start on January 26, 2026 — the start of term one.
