Erina Hunt, of the University of Otago’s language centre, throws a bucket of water over the peace pole on the museum reserve yesterday to get rid of graffiti before the United Nations International Day of Peace on Thursday.
A ceremony will be held to mark the international observance between 12.30pm and 1pm on that day.
A crowd of about 50 people is expected.
The peace pole has stood on the reserve for 15 years. It is one of about 250,000 similar poles throughout the world.
