Four arrested after two police pursuits in Dunedin

Four people were arrested after two pursuits in Dunedin at the weekend.

In the first, a woman driver and two of her male passengers were arrested after police spotted a man wanted for arrest in a car on St Andrew St about 11.50pm on Friday.

The car failed to stop for police, and officers followed it for several minutes at speeds of up to 70kmh.

The car eventually failed to take the corner turning from Playfair St into Thorne St in Caversham and stopped after colliding with a concrete island and a give way sign.

The 24-year-old female driver was arrested and charged with failing to stop for police.

A 24-year-old male passenger was arrested and charged with criminal nuisance for throwing bottles out of the car during the pursuit and an 18-year-old male passenger was held in police custody over the weekend, arrested on a warrant.

He will appear in the Dunedin District Court today.

The other two will appear later this week.

A 23-year-old male will also appear in Dunedin District Court charged with failing to stop and dangerous driving after a brief pursuit that reached speeds up to 150kmh at 12.30am yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said police tried to stop the man when he was clocked doing 125kmh on the Caversham Valley bypass.

He was pursued along Dunedin's Southern Motorway until he stopped after taking a Green Island exit.
