The Otago Regional Council's boundaries will remain mostly unchanged, but councillors are still pushing for more connection with Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

At a council meeting in Dunedin yesterday, council followed staff advice and decided to leave electorate boundaries unchanged.

Options on the table included splitting the Dunstan Ward into Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes and adding Taieri to the Dunedin area.

The Dunstan split would have meant two guaranteed councillors for the Queenstown Lakes region.

There will be a slight adjustment to the boundary between Molyneux and Dunedin, but no population difference.

Cr Ella Lawton said she looked forward to hearing the community's feedback.

Cr Michael Laws said the council should rotate its council meetings to be held more often in other parts of the region.

Cr Bryan Scott said he liked the idea, but the council would need to do it with ''some profile'' to make the travel worth it and actually connect with locals.
