Otago's Josh Aitcheson is set to test himself against some of Asia's best 3x3 basketball talents.

The 20-year-old has been selected in Team Aotearoa to play at the 3x3 Super Quest event in Manila this weekend.

He is joined by Auckland's Samuel Aruwa, who played for the Dunedin-based Squiddies at the national finals last month. It was from those finals, in which the Squiddies finish second, that the team was selected.

Former Otago player Adam Dunstan and Chris McIntosh also feature in the team.

They will play against 11 other 3x3 teams from the Asian zone at the SM Megamall Fasion Hall.

A new concept for Fiba, the Super Quest will grant the top four-placed teams a spot at either a Fiba World Tour or Fiba Challenger event.

Basketball New Zealand 3x3 manager David Huxford said opportunities in the game were increasing.

More countries were setting up FIBA-sanctioned events and building their high performance programmes in preparation for the game's debut at the Olympics next year.

-Otago forward Tai Porima-Flavell has been named in the Junior Tall Blacks squad to travel to China for the Atlas Sports International Tournament in April.

He is joined by former North Otago guard Max de Geest, who spent the summer as a development player with the New Zealand Breakers.

The side is head coached by Otago's Gavin Briggs and will attend the under-19 World Cup in June.
