4WD hangs precariously off Portobello Rd

The occupants of a 4WD left hanging precariously off the edge of Portobello Rd have escaped without serious injury after a head-on crash this afternoon.

A reporter at the scene said one wheel of a 4WD was hanging over the water after the crash between two 4WDs on Otago Peninsula near Grassy Point.

The crash is close to the intersection between Portobello Rd and Raynnird St in Company Bay.

The occupants of the 4WD left hanging over the edge had escaped and firefighters were now working to winch the vehicle from the ledge.

A firefighter at the scene said there were no serious injuries.

Firefighters, police and St John are at the scene.

A police spokeswoman said it was called to the crash about 3pm but did not have any details about injuries.
