Ecobulbs in Germany

Energy Mad, the Christchurch-based company that makes Ecobulb energy-saving light bulbs, has launched two Ecobulb programmes in Germany through its distributor there.

The programmes were in partnership with two German electricity utilities and involved those utilities direct-mailing 600,000 homes offering people a chance to purchase Ecobulbs from 155 retail stores in the states of Bavaria and Baden Wurttemberg.

Both utility partners were members of larger utility groups and the programmes provided Energy Mad with a "stepping stone" to further growth in the German market, Energy Mad managing director Chris Mardon said.

The Ecobulb recently gained approval to wear the EU Ecolabel, which signalled to European consumers that it was a high-quality lamp that had passed stringent tests.

It was the first energy saving lamp carrying the EU Ecolabel to be placed on the market in Germany.
