Generosity displayed with Toot for Tucker food drive

Oamaru Combined Churches Foodbank has been overwhelmed by community generosity. The North Otago Lions Club hosted its annual Toot for Tucker food drive on Monday, gathering non-perishable items for the foodbank. Secretary Jill Wilson and manager Bernard Wilkinson were inundated with items.

Emergency services, community youth groups and various Lions club members took to the streets throughout Oamaru and Weston to collect the items. Foodbank chairwoman Rosemary Bentley said the response was absolutely overwhelming, and she was grateful for the communities’ support.

"The community is so generous it’s unbelievable. They always get behind everything that goes on in the community — we are so fortunate for them," she said. The foodbank would start making parcels on Friday to be delivered to families throughout North Otago.
