Olympian Andrea Kilday kicks out as members of Green Island Taekwondo adopt a fighting stance behind her.Kilday travelled from Auckland on Sunday at the invitation of Green Island Taekwondo to give them some tips to help them in tournaments, including footwork. ‘‘Just little bits and pieces that can help with training and that can help improve their skill levels.’’

Kilday said some of the qualities needed to get to the Olympics were motivation and determination. ‘‘If you want to get to that level you actually need to put the time and effort into your training.’’

Kilday competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics after winning gold at the Oceania championships in Port Moresby. After almost 30 years of involvement in taekwondo she wanted to give back ‘‘and hopefully see some future Olympians’’, Kilday said.

‘‘I love the team here. They are so nice, so lovely and really welcoming.

‘‘They train so hard and they don’t give up.’’

Club coach Grant Beel said it was such a privilege to have an Olympian to give up her own time and visit the club.
