A community-led Matariki star installation will be established at Anzac Park as part of the wider Matariki celebrations on the Taieri Plain.
The static visual display will be in place from June 24 to July 22 to span the public holiday.
It invites the public to pause during their daily journeys to remember loved ones who have died and make wishes for the year ahead.
A star raising on Wednesday, June 24 about 5pm will include a brief karakia and a period of silence to honour people who have died.
Then on Wednesday, June 22, a closing karakia will be held as the stars are taken down.
The installation is intended as a space for reflection, remembrance and connection.
