A car fire prompted a callout from emergency services near Maheno in North Otago today.

A police spokesman said officers were called to the Alma Maheno Rd (State Highway 1) about 12.10pm on Tuesday.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews were also at the scene and police were assisting, the spokesman said.
