A man was arrested and charged with excess breath alcohol after driving recklessly in Oamaru last week.

Senior Sergeant Jason McCoy said the 54-year-old Oamaru man was stopped by police on Thursday evening after he was seen "swerving between lanes on Thames Highway".

The man recorded a breath-alcohol level of 813mcg, Sen Sgt McCoy said.

He will appear in the Oamaru District Court on August 6.

One person was badly injured after a car and motorcycle collided near a North Otago cemetery earlier this week.

Police were called just after 10am on Monday to reports of a crash, a spokesperson said.

A helicopter, two fire appliances, an ambulance and police car were sent to the scene in Currie Rd near Maheno Cemetery.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in critical condition, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

A trio of drivers were arrested and charged with driving with excess breath alcohol this week.

The first was a 32-year-old Dunedin man who was pulled over in Usk St at 10pm on Monday.

He recorded a breath-alcohol level of 732mcg.

Two hours later, a 34-year-old Oamaru man was stopped in Chelmer St and recorded a breath-alcohol level of 558mcg.

An 18-year-old Queenstown man was the third and final driver pulled over just before 2.30am on Tuesday morning.

He recorded a breath-alcohol level of 297mcg.

All three will appear in the Oamaru District Court on August 6.
