Brian Malcolm Charles, 66, of Oamaru, appeared in the Oamaru District Court on Wednesday charged with injuring with intent.
He was remanded on bail, without plea, until October 15.
The three bail conditions placed on Mr Charles were to continue to reside at his Oamaru address and not to offer any violence to or contact the complainant.
The alleged attack happened after a crash between a bicycle and car at the junction on South Hill last Monday morning.
Police said the 21-year-old female driver of the car was concussed as a result.
