Firefighters continued over the weekend mopping up the blaze which tore through more than 100ha of scrub and forest near Dunback last week.
Otago Rural Fire Authority deputy principal rural fire officer Graeme Still said one fire crew remained at the fire ground over the weekend, helped by two helicopters.
On Saturday, rural firefighters used an infra red camera to find hot spots from the Dunback blaze.
Yesterday, the remaining crew, from Glenorchy, was working in a gully running from the forestry block which was gripped by huge flames on Wednesday. Firefighters were digging up the fire ground while helicopters dumped water, as the area was inaccessible to trucks and hoses, Mr Still said.
It appeared the fire was well contained despite ''a bit of flame here and there'', but a crew would continue mopping up today, he said.
