Mind-blowing response to ‘Giving Day’

As far as an hourly rate goes, it’s mind-blowing.

Last Thursday the Wakatipu High School Foundation held its inaugural ‘Giving Day’, a 12-hour fundraising campaign to support local students.

Every dollar raised was matched by hugely-generous supporters Mary and John Thompson, Grant and Sharon Stalker, Pak’n Save’s Michelle and Anthony King and a WHSF Trustee.

In all, the foundation’s coffers were boosted to the tune of $134,355 — meaning they raised over $11,000 an hour — to be used for support teachers, literacy and numeracy, wellbeing, outdoor ed and the Āwhina Support Fund, ensuring every student has the chance to thrive.

WHS principal Oded Nathan said in last week’s school newsletter he was "blown away" by the level of support shown, describing it as "truly humbling".

"As you all know, the WHS Foundation has a profound impact on each and every student and on the school’s ability to meet students where they need to be met.

"We are truly grateful for their support, and for everyone that supports both the WHS Foundation and Wakatipu High School."
