A Dunedin driver who allegedly fled police at more than 100km/h was busted by the dog squad with a ‘‘large knife’’ and cannabis.
At about 1am this morning a police dog patrol signalled a vehicle to stop on Macandrew Rd.
However, the vehicle failed to stop and the driver allegedly fled from police ‘‘in excess of 100km/h in a residential area’’, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.
Police did not give chase and the vehicle was eventually discovered in the area.
A 21-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were found nearby after being tracked by dogs.
The woman admitted being behind the wheel ‘‘and was also located in possession of a large knife and a quantity of cannabis,’’ Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
She was interviewed further regarding four historic shoplifting matters.
The woman would appear in the Dunedin District Court at a later date ‘‘on a raft of charges’’, Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
That included failing to stop, dangerous driving, possession of a knife and four counts of historic shoplifting.
She was not charged with regards to the cannabis.
The man was not charged and was released at the scene once culpability was established,
Acting Snr Sgt Notman said.
