The streets of Gore were alive and loud this past weekend as the Freeze Ya Bits Off Buskers Festival brought the magic of music to the masses.

School groups took part on Thursday and the streets were packed to the brim with supporters enjoying their performances.

East Gore School pipped the competition after a high-energy performance that had people lining up to watch.

The judges complimented their fantastic costumes, energy and variety of songs.

Runner-up Waikaka School was a standout for its use of props, movement, energy and improvisation, and Balfour School received a special mention for singing an original song.

Blue Mountain College had an automatic win as “the only high school cool enough to give it a go”, Gore District Council’s senior events co-ordinator Florine Potts said.

“They absolutely nailed it.”

Then it was on to the professionals, who brought a vibrant and fun energy to the event.

A very competitive field hit the stage at St James Theatre on Sunday night, but the night belonged to a few.

In the upcoming artists category, Zeana, William & Harvey won the 18-and-under category, with Lily Macleod coming in second.
