The Carnivorous Plant Society described as New Zealand’s favourite psychedelic exotic jazz band, will perform a one-off show at the Eastern Southland Gallery on July 12.
"The Carnivorous Plant Society have played twice before at the gallery and were an absolute blast," gallery programmes officer Marcella Geddes said.
"We are delighted to have them back," she said.
In 2019 and 2021, Carnivorous Plant Society largely sold out the 60-person venue.
Band leader Finn Scholes, known for his work with Dave Dobbyn, Circling Sun, Hopetoun Brown and composition on The SpongeBob SquarePants movie, will take a trio of New Zealand’s most talented musicians and play music that weaves stories and transports the listeners to the far reaches of the globe from Southeast Asia to South America and back to New Zealand.
The performance will feature vibraphone, tuba, harmonica, pan flute, synthesisers, drums, bass and vocals against a backdrop of hand-drawn animations.
In 2020, the band’s song Take was nominated for a music industry APRA Amcos Silver Scroll award.
Tickets for the 7.30pm show are $40 for general admission, $35 for members of the gallery and $10 for students.
