Club showcasing 60 years’ success

Six decades of the Gore Vintage Car Club were celebrated by past and present members at the weekend.

Ninety people came to the 60th anniversary celebrations, which started on the Friday with registration and a catchup and then continued into the Saturday as members got together for a morning tea and their annual photo at the Gore Town & Country Club.

Gil and Ruth Edmunds, with their 1980 model 1275 GT Mini, headed down from the Otago Branch of the Vintage Car Club team with Mickey and Minnie Mouse in the backseat — who they call fantastic travel partners.

From there, a ride out to Riversdale had members checking out a private car collection and then returning to the Croydon Lodge for a formal dinner and prizegiving, before farewells on Sunday brought the event to a close.

Gore Vintage Car Club president Paul Herron said it was a very successful weekend, having been the result of much planning and strong execution from the organising committee.

There was a lot to enjoy over the weekend, but it was catching up with old friends and reminiscing about the club, the cars and the long and storied history of the club which stood out as a highlight for him, Mr Herron said.

There was a "smattering of everything" in terms of vintage cars, with Ford Model As, Model Ts and Mustangs, alongside a big display at the Croydon Lodge of the many cars of the club.

Mr Herron said it was a great club to be a part of, and he thanked the organising committee again for their hard work in putting it all together and said he was looking forward to the next anniversary celebration.
