
A Mosgiel primary school agreed with the statement, and the pupils took the challenge seriously.
Yesterday, East Taieri School pupils pulled out anything yellow they could wear to support Life Education Trust’s national fundraising campaign Wear Yellow for Harold Day, for its mascot Harold the Giraffe.
Pupils each donated a gold coin.
The day was held yesterday in order to get as close to World Giraffe Day (tomorrow) as possible.
Principal Garth Powell said it was a good cause to get behind, and it was fun for the pupils.
‘‘[The Life Education Trust] are amazing, so that’s why we’ve got behind it.’’
Life Education Trust chief executive Jo Malcolm-Black said the money raised would be used to deliver programmes that build confidence, resilience, relationships and positive decision-making skills as part of their Healthy Harold programme.
Days like this, and schools getting behind it, were necessary as the trust received no government funding.
‘‘Community fundraising is not an extra for Life Education; it is what makes this work possible,’’ she said.
Last year the programme reached more than 220,000 children at 1286 schools nationwide.
