A track through an alluvial goldmining landscape at Bannockburn is being realigned and upgraded by the Department of Conservation.
Doc tendered for the work, which started last month within the Bannockburn Sluicings Historic Reserve.
The work should be completed before May.
Small sections of the walking track are being realigned to strengthen it. The track was prone to becoming muddy and in some places had eroded badly.
More people were now using the track, and this had further eroded it.
Realignment would be minor, with the existing track being followed predominantly.
Initially, marker poles placed by individuals were all that indicated the walkway, which had been formed with use over the years.
