Red Mazda sought after $10,000 burglary

Police are looking for a red Mazda 323 with mag wheels seen speeding from the scene of a burglary in Ward St, Dunedin, early on Saturday.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said about $10,000 worth of goods, including a welder, tools, engine parts, and two racing seats were stolen from the property.

The thieves smashed a door to gain access to the workshop and sped from the scene when they were interrupted by workers about 5am.

• A man who crashed a car into a lamp-post in Eglinton Rd about 10.30pm on Saturday was not injured, but was arrested a short time later in Hillside Rd and charged with drink-driving after allegedly recording a breath-alcohol reading of 1155mcg, nearly three times the legal limit, Snr Sgt Benn said.
