The couple celebrated the milestone surrounded by friends and family at an afternoon tea at the Clyde Hall last month.
Trevor and Jenny first met in Invercargill in 1963 when Jenny would walk past John Chambers where Trevor worked in the warehouse around lunchtime, heading to her office job at J. F. Hargreaves.
"She used to walk past, and us guys used to do all the whistles of the girls walking past," Trevor said.
Eventually, the couple would begin dating, with Trevor inviting Jenny out to the movies.
"Yeah, in those days there was nowhere else to go, but the movies, that was about it," he said.
The couple would later get engaged in a rather low-key manner.
"I don't think I remember getting down on my knees or anything," Trevor said.
Eighteen months later the couple were married June 19, 1965, on a sunny day at St Peter’s Church on Elles Rd.
"It was a lovely day, the sun shone, everybody turned up," Jenny said.
After getting married, the couple continued to work and raised a family, having two boys named Allan and Gary.
The couple would later shift to Christchurch, where Trevor worked for Armourguard and Jenny for New Zealand Post.
In 1995, they would move to Central Otago, where the family had holidayed for many years.
They loved everything about the region, Trevor said.
In 2009 the couple sold their house, and went touring around New Zealand in a caravan.
Having sampled the country they would return to live in Central Otago.
"[We] still came back here, thinking it's the best place in the world, nowhere else worth living but Central Otago," he said.
Looking back at their life together the couple said they just lived a normal life, raising their boys and being there for each other.
"They've both been very successful in their careers, which we're very proud of," Trevor said.
Until last year, Jenny, a life member of the Invercargill Netball Centre would travel down to Invercargill every game to support the Southern Steel netball team, something she did for 20 years.
Jenny had experienced troubles with her health recently, but that did not stop the couple from getting on with things and enjoying life together.
"We've just got to get on with life and make the most of what we've got together," she said.
