BMX track being groomed for event

Alexandra's BMX track is being worked on ahead of the South Island titles competition scheduled for January.

Up to 160 riders from throughout New Zealand are expected to take part in the championships, which will be the two-year-old Alexandra BMX Club's largest event.

Club president Steve Adair said the track near Molyneux Park was being cleared and groomed before the competition.

A working bee was held at the facility yesterday to remove excess water on the track after persistent rain on Saturday.

Mr Adair had planned a Sunday racing event for about 40 people from throughout Central Otago, Invercargill and Dunedin, which had to be cancelled due to the drenched track.

An extended club meet tomorrow night would compensate for a lack of weekend racing, Mr Adair said.
