Fire rages through cottage

Firefighters deal with what is left of a cottage in Central Otago after fire ripped right through the wooden building yesterday.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said firefighters were called to the blaze in the 8m by 8m cottage at 12.29pm on Mountainview Rd, in the Springvale area, about 10km from Alexandra.

Two appliances from Alexandra and another from Clyde attended the callout and firefighters found the cottage well alight when they arrived.

No-one was inside the cottage, which was well back from the road.

Firefighters spent just over three hours at the blaze, the cause of which was yet to be determined, she said.
