What happened to some firewood at the Lake Hayes A & P Show will remain a mystery.

The show on Saturday went well in some rainy weather at times and woodchopping was on the programme as usual. The show organisers then decided to auction off the wood left over from the woodchopping which was a first for the show. The winning bid was $350.

But when the organisers returned to the show site on Sunday, the pile of firewood had disappeared.

Show manager Ann Wyatt said it would have taken a trailer and at least two people to move the wood which was heavy and difficult to carry.

The theft would have taken place late at night as people were working late on Saturday in the darkness.

Offers had been made to help the person who had bought the wood at auction.

She said it was not a large amount of money but it all added up to help operate the show. — Allied Media
