The Maniototo Lions Club could fund the entire $240,000 of the new-look medical centre in the proposed Maniototo Hospital rebuild, through a giant community project.

Project chairman John Mulholland said the Lions club wanted to pay all the costs of relocating the medical centre within the rebuilt hospital.

It would use its own funds and do more fundraising, and was going to apply to national and international Lions groups for grants.

The project would be done in conjunction with another Maniototo group, the Ranfurly Maniototo Pakeke Lions Club, Mr Mulholland said.

He said the clubs had already indicated the $240,000 of support to Maniototo Health Services Ltd.

MHSL chairman Stuart Patterson said the money would be a significant boost to fundraising for the $5.5million rebuild.
