A Tapanui man has been flown to Dunedin Hospital after a serious crash between a logging truck and a four-wheel-drive.
Senior Sergeant Richard McPhail said a section of the highway between Raes Junction and Tapanui was closed for several hours this morning, but the road is now reopened to one lane.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 15km north of Tapanui at 10.30am.
Snr Sgt McPhail said the 22-year-old driver of the 4WD was trapped in the vehicle's wreckage and was cut free by members of the Tapanui and Heriot volunteer fire brigades, before being flown to Dunedin Hospital with leg injuries.
The driver of the logging truck was treated for minor injuries by St John Ambulance staff.
The commercial vehicle investigation unit will look into the cause of the crash.
