Meltdown cuts power to homes

A circut breaker meltdown caused a loss of power to homes and businesses on the eastern side of Wanaka yesterday morning.

A spokesman for Upper Clutha electricity supplier Delta said the circuit breaker broke down 13 minutes after midnight and power was lost to all residences located within the area bordered by Plantation Rd, Anderson Rd and across to Penrith Park.

Power was restored at 3.17am.

However, the cause of the fault was not established until 8.30am.
Because the fault was located in a ``dangerous position'', power had to be cut off for another half hour.

The fault was isolated and fixed about 9am, the spokesman said.
