Wooing Tree Estate confirmed yesterday it had sold the block of land, of just over half a hectare, it had earmarked for a visitor accommodation block to New Zealand developer Redwood Group.
Veros manages the Wooing Tree Estate development on behalf of the owners.
The Redwood Group would develop The Grove at Wooing Tree.
The group is aiming to deliver 47 two- and three-bedroom homes, adjacent to the new Wooing Tree Vineyard Cellar Door and underpass.
Redwood Group has applied for resource consent with the Central Otago District Council and hoped to start construction later this year with houses being completed throughout next year.
Veros development manager Stephen Cornwall said Redwood was more aligned with developing houses while Wooing Tree Estate was concentrating on land development.
The homes were approved for 365-day accommodation use, but they could also be used as fulltime residences, offering flexibility for owners to live in them permanently or rent
them out in the short or long-term.
"We had always planned for visitor accommodation at Wooing Tree Estate to help address the under-supply in Cromwell," Wooing Tree Vineyard co-owner Steve Farquharson said.
"Redwood Group’s development will be a great addition to both Wooing Tree Estate and the wider Cromwell community."
Mr Cornwall said 310 houses had been built since 2019 at the estate and stage five construction was set to start in August.
By this time next year a fully consented 370 new houses would be built at the estate.
The estate was buffered from the main road by grapevines which had been harvested for the first time this season.
A childcare centre had also opened at the Wooing Tree Estate and it already had a waiting list.
It had a roll of 80 children.
