The long weekend went off with a bang in Cromwell with a spectacular fireworks display on Sunday evening.

Cromwell and districts promotions group marketing and communications director Tanya Dennis said the annual event went really well and even the fickle weather played ball.

The highlight of the evening was the spectacular fireworks display, that lit up the town from a barge on the water.

"The weather was timed just right, and it seems those weather dances paid off — allowing every part of the evening’s entertainment and celebrations to go ahead as planned."

A few spots of rain earlier in the evening cleared in time for the grand finale.

Before that there was entertainment for every taste ranging from the Cromwell line dancing group, which had a large number of bystanders joining in with them, to a roving magician and unique cultural performances.

Aerial gymnasts and face painters, art workshops and endless varieties of food and drink all served up a memorable event.

Showcasing the Cromwell heritage precinct and getting people out and about was the purpose of the event, Mrs Dennis said.

Traditional lawn games were played in the grounds of McNulty House where the stage for musicians was also set up.

Cromwell scout group set up their haunted house experience in the old Masonic Lodge with creepy and frightening rooms for visitors to walk through, from the kitchen surgery with staff in bloodstained aprons and masks to the chainsaw revving at the exit.

Mrs Dennis said the gold coin donations from visitors and the generous support funders, sponsors, supporters and volunteers, meant the group could continue to offer an affordable and accessible event for all.

"The sense of togetherness and local spirit shone brightly all evening," Mrs Dennis said.
