Proposal postponed, shelterbelt deemed safe

The proposed Cromwell town centre upgrade will not be made available to the town's community board for another month.

A report on the upgrade was scheduled for inclusion in Monday's board meeting, although it was withdrawn as it was not completed in time.

Board chairman Neil Gillespie said he was disappointed the report was not available, and hoped it would be before the board for inclusion in its next meeting in December.

Golf course trees: A forestry report on the condition of shelterbelt trees at the Cromwell Golf Course has found them to be in a good, stable condition.

The board resolved to acknowledge the report, and take no further action in relation to the trees, which had earlier raised safety concerns.

CODC forestry consultant Dennis Guild, of Guild Forestry, said in his report wood from the felled trees would not be worth enough money to cover the cost of chopping them down.

He said while the trees would need to be replaced eventually, they were safe in the meantime and effectively did what they were supposed to.

Sports pavilion: The board also resolved to fund an additional $8000 for the Anderson Park Sports Pavilion, which needs painting inside and out.

$4200 was initially provided in the 2007-08 annual plan budget for the pavilion's rotten ceilings and skylights to be replaced, and a further $7185 was provided for painting.

Damage was more advanced than estimated, and with all repairs completed only $3685 would be left for painting, prompting a request for additional funding.

The work was considered urgent as cricket clubs needed to use the facility during their summer season.
