Land for three decades’ worth of housing demand has been allocated in a new spatial plan.
The Teviot Valley Spatial Plan was adopted by the Central Otago District Council earlier this week and has been designed to provide direction for growth and development for Roxburgh, Lake Roxburgh Village, Ettrick and Millers Flat for the next 30 years.
The plan allows for the construction of more affordable houses on smaller sections, such as a plan for medium-density housing in Roxburgh.
Other projects outlined in the plan included a new settlement zone to replace the existing low-density areas in Lake Roxburgh Village, Ettrick and Millers Flat, and new cycle-trail connections between the existing Roxburgh Gorge and Clutha Gold trails and Ettrick.
Council principal policy planner Ann Rodgers said a long-term approach would allow towns to support healthy and vibrant communities.
"It is a high-level blueprint for the future that ensures growth can occur in a positive and sustainable way and allows consideration of growth before it happens," she said.
