Staying with Contact

Contact Energy hydro-project manager Neil Gillespie, of Cromwell, says he will not be out of a job following the company's decision to cease work on the Clutha River hydro development project.

Mr Gillespie, who is chairman of the Cromwell Community Board, was a long-serving employee of Contact when he was named the Clyde-based project manager of its generation development team in August 2008.

When asked yesterday if his job was in jeopardy following the project's cancellation, Mr Gillespie said there was "still work to do in concluding the project so I'm not moving on".

While he was sad to see the project come to a close after three years of work, he was also pleased that a decision had been made.

Liaising with the community was the best aspect of his role within Contact, he said.

"Relationships are the key to working through any complex project as they are in our day-to-day lives. It helps when you have a close connection with the community as I do."
