Volunteers up for awards

Organisers of the annual TrustPower Central Otago District Community Awards are praising the good response of the district's residents in nominating 19 voluntary groups and organisations for accolades.

TrustPower community relations co-ordinator Rebecca James said nominations closed on April 4 for the awards, which recognised and rewarded volunteers for their contribution to the Central Otago community.

The awards cover five categories including heritage and environment, health and wellbeing, arts and culture sport and leisure, as well as educational and child or youth development.

Category winners receive $500, runners-up $250, and a supreme winner is awarded $1500, a trophy, certificate, and a trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards being at Palmerston North.

Central Otago's nominated organisations and groups will be announced and presented at a function on May 12.
