Winter markets offer escape from the cold

The middle of winter can be a dreary time when even the most avid outdoor adventurer can lose their mojo and want to curl up by the fire.

However, a Cromwell crafter has come up with an idea to get everyone out and about and finding new treasures in the depths of winter.

PK Maracin has organised an indoor market at the Victoria Arms Hotel’s function room, in Old Cromwell, in June and July.

There were 13 confirmed stallholders for the inaugural event, she said.

"Everything on offer will be handmade, crafted, grown or produced in Central Otago.

"The range is large; pottery, textiles, woodwork, preserves, honey, nuts, baked goods, jewellery and herbal oils."

The markets would be held every Sunday for three weeks from June 30.

Ms Maracin hoped there would be enough interest in the markets for them to become an annual event.
