Icy roads in Queenstown district

It’s a frosty old start across the Wakatipu Basin, the Crown Range and into the Cardrona Valley this morning.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council said ice and grit had been reported across Queenstown, Malaghans Road, Arrowtown, Glenorchy, Gibbston and the Kawarau Gorge.

Ice was also likely to be on the Mount Aspiring Road past Wanaka.

Drivers were asked to keep their speeds down, following distances sensible, carry chains and be wary of passing trucks as they dropped grit on roads.

In Central Otago, it was another chilly morning, with  temperatures ranging from 4degC to -3degC.

All roads in the region were open, except Danseys Pass Rd due to snow, and were a mix of wet and dry, but no issues with ice had been reported.

However, the Central Otago District Council advised road users to take care on bridge decks and shaded areas, as these could be slippery.
