A report and action plan on issues at Waitaki Boys' High School, which will help set its direction for governance and management, is the next step for commissioner Nicola Hornsey.

The Tekapo lawyer was appointed commissioner to take over governance of the school after its board of trustees stood down on October 6 after statutory intervention was indicated by the Ministry of Education.

Her task is to resolve serious issues identified at the school, which has divided staff, the school community and North Otago as a whole.

Some of the issues date back to 2012.

In an update to the school community yesterday, Ms Hornsey said she had indicated she wanted the scoping report and action plan to be completed by next week.

Because of the considerable number of people who wanted to share their thoughts on the school with her, she had not yet been able to complete her report.

However, the information had been of great assistance, she said.

In order to finish the report and plan by the end of next week, she closed the research phase yesterday.

''This will enable me to concentrate on developing a plan to move the school forward and for the implementation of the plan to start as soon as possible,'' she said.
