Altrusa distributes books to all babies born or cared for at Oamaru Hospital during September as part of Literacy Week, a project it has undertaken for decades.

The books come in a "goodies bag" that includes a gift for the mother, parenting and other helpful information, such as details about the Oamaru Toy Library.

Baby James, born last Sunday, is the son of Ana and Chris Buchan of Oamaru.
